| DUTIES |
An Electric Distribution Mechanic performs skilled mechanical and electrical work in connection with the construction, maintenance, and repair of overhead and underground electric transmission, subtransmission, distribution, communication, and utilitarian street light lines, cables, and equipment; and may work as lead over a group of skilled craft workers |

| REQUIREMENTS |
- Certified completion of the Department of Water and Power Electric Distribution Mechanic training program; or
- Certified completion of a recognized power line mechanic apprenticeship program, including one year of work on energized high-voltage lines; or
- Two years of journey-level experience as a line mechanic working on energized high-voltage lines.
NOTES:
- Candidates filing under Requirement Number 1 may file within 6 months of completion of the Department of Water and Power Electric Distribution Mechanic training program. However, they cannot be appointed until they have successfully completed the Department of Water and Power Electric Distribution Mechanic training program.
- Candidates filing under Requirements Number 2 or 3 are required to submit with their application a completed Supplemental Information Form that describes their experience and training in more detail.
- Candidates filing under Requirement Number 2 must submit an apprenticeship certificate.
- Candidates filing under Requirement Number 3 must submit a verification of work experience on company letterhead.
- Candidates filing under Requirement #2 or #3 who choose to file a paper application must attach copy of the required documents at the time the paper application is submitted. Candidates who choose to file on-line will have 7 calendar days from the on-line submission date to submit a copy of their documents. Candidates who fail to submit these documents within the time required will not be considered further in this examination and their application will not be processed.

Examination Weights: Performance Test . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 100%The examination will consist of a performance test together with an evaluation of the candidate's experience, training, job knowledge, work methods, and personal qualifications. During the performance test, which may include climbing and working on a power pole up to 90 feet in height, the candidate may be asked to demonstrate or discuss various tasks associated with the installation, construction, and repair of overhead power line systems. The performance test will be held in Los Angeles.

- This examination is based on a validation study.
- A valid California drivers license may be required prior to appointment. A valid California Class A and/or Class B drivers license and medical certificate may be required for some positions. Applicants for such positions will be disqualified and not eligible for hire if within the past 36 months they were convicted of a major moving violation, such as driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, and may be disqualified if there are three or more moving violations and/or at-fault accidents within the past 36 months. For positions requiring a valid California Class A and/or Class B drivers license, applicants must submit a commercial driving history in accordance with California Department of Motor Vehicles CVC Section 1801.1.
- Based on City policy, before being hired into some positions, you may be required to undergo a drug and alcohol screening test.
- The promotional list will ordinarily be used ahead of the open competitive list. However, if open competitive candidates receive a higher score, without military credits, than the highest available promotional candidate, after adding 0.25 of a point seniority credit for each year of service, the Civil Service Commission, upon request of the appointing authority, may approve certification of such open competitive candidates ahead of the promotional candidates.
- You may take this examination only once every 365 days during the term of this bulletin.
