| DUTIES |
A Safety Engineer Pressure Vessels inspects steam and other boilers, unfired pressure vessels, and appurtenances for conformance to State laws and City ordinances regulating their design, fabrication, installation and operation. |

| REQUIREMENTS |
- A valid Certificate of Competency to inspect boiler and pressure vessels issued by the State of California; or
- A valid National Board Commission from the National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspectors.
NOTES:

- Candidates filing under Requirement Number 2 may submit proof of having passed the National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspectors examination if they have not yet received their Commission.
- Appointees to the Department of Building and Safety are required to furnish their own automobile, properly insured, for use in City service. Mileage will be paid in accordance with established rates.
- A valid California driver's license is required prior to appointment. Applicants will be disqualified and not eligible for hire if within the past 36 months is convicted of a major moving violation, such as driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, and may be disqualified if there are three or more moving violations and/or at-fault accidents within the past 36 months.

- You may take the test only once every 365 days during the administration of this examination.

However, if open competitive candidates receive a higher score, without military credits, than the highest available promotional candidate, after adding 0.25 of a point seniority credit for each year of service, the Civil Service Commission, upon request of the appointing authority, may approve certification of such open competitive candidates ahead of the promotional candidates.
- A final average score of 70% is required to be placed on the eligible list.
- In conjunction with Civil Service rules, applicants who are current eligible City employees or are on a reserve list will be considered Promotional candidates while all other applicants will be considered Open candidates.
